NaNoWriMo Day 24

The Words: 2462 written today.

I have to admit, it’s getting more and more difficult to write, after having already hit 50k, and with the story not really going a direction that feels great. But I am determined to write at least some every day, either until the story is done, or until November ends. I got to twitter.com/NaNoWordSprints during a time of one #1k30min after another. I came late for one, so wrote about 700 while I waited for that sprint to end. Then I wrote another 1300 during the next 30-minute sprint. After that, I was into a part that was more fun to write, so I kept going until I realized it was midnight.

The Story: Though some of it was pretty unbelievable, Justin finished updating the others on what he’d learned about Vin’s doings over the last several years. Then, something happened that I’ve been looking forward to since way before I ever started planning this book. Rogan’s brother finally arrived back in Pithea, after being away for a few months. His reunion with his brother was great!

NaNoWriMo Day 23

The Words: 159 written today.

Thanksgiving is always a low word-count day for me. My family’s get-together is on Saturday, so it will also be a low word-count day. Though I didn’t go anywhere today, I still enjoyed a very lazy day and a lot of family time on this mid-week day off work.

The Story: Justin started to relay what had happened with Vin to Penny, Rogan, and Cathy. Though I’ve already forgotten how much detail he heard before he left. Tomorrow, I may have to read back over yesterday’s writing just a little, so I know how this should go.

NaNoWriMo Day 22

The Words: 1982 written today.

Another day getting just past par, which is great after such a slump! Not much more to say here. I also finally wrote with a sprint from @NaNoWordSprints on Twitter, which I haven’t been doing as much lately (no surprise, since I’ve barely even been writing lately). I did one #1k30min, which is where most of the words came from, and then kept going to make sure I passed 1667.

The Story: The climax is definitely over, though I struggled to find the resolution to it that I had planned. I don’t think I’m very good at this kind of thing, which I chalk up mostly to having a decent, tragedy-lite life myself.

I have been remiss in sharing the NaNoMusical as the month has progressed! Here is episode 4!

NaNoWriMo Day 21

The Words: 1829 written today.

I was determined to reach at least par today, despite yet again not getting to writing until after 10pm. I’m amazed by how much I wrote early in the month, and how hard the words are now. It’s partly because I’ve been busier, but even in the time I have, I’m not writing as many words as I could be. But before the month started, I knew this story would be a difficult one to write, given the nature of it. The only reason it went so well earlier in the month is because I did so much fluff writing (characters telling stories about events that had happened in earlier books).

The Story: Vin seemed to be getting talked down, but then had one final surprise for everyone. I won’t say any more than that.

NaNoWriMo Day 20

The Words: 937 written today.

This is my 5th day in a row of not writing at least par. It’s getting to a point where I almost feel it’s not worth continuing to post about my writing. However, I’m still writing, and considering the times in the last 5 days I’ve thought about just not writing that day, I think it’s worth sharing that I still have written something.

We had a company meeting at work this evening, from which I got home after my daughter’s bed time. I was yet again happy to have enough time to write what I did.

The Story: I finished Vin’s last letter to the pastor. He definitely held nothing back.

NaNoWriMo Day 19

The Words: 1133 written today.

I don’t have much to say about the words today. I wrote some, played a game with my daughter, and relaxed the rest of the evening. I do have a back-up plan for if the story ends with more than a day or 2 left of November, but at this point, I doubt that will happen. And that’s okay.

The Story: I started on Vin’s final letter to the pastor. He’s decided to come clean about why he started all of this in the first place, and share a secret that he doesn’t actually expect the pastor to believe. I’m trying to decide if there’s anything that he’ll hold back, or if he’ll really tell the pastor everything about himself and who he is.

NaNoWriMo Day 18

The Words: 668 written today.

It’s been a rough few days for writing recently. I worked this evening and got home around 10. Then I still had about an hour’s worth of work to do, and supper to eat. I wrote for a bit after 11pm and was happy to get this many (again).

I know I’ve hit the 50k words…and that I’m almost out of story. But I’d rather finish the story early and decide what I want to write about for the rest of the month (if anything), or I’d rather decide for myself to continue slowly, rather than be forced into it by having so many long days or late evenings of work.

The Story: I started to continue where I left off during the climax yesterday, and realized that I needed to write the rest of Vin’s letters first. I want to be sure I know what he has told the pastor before I continue the climax. So I wrote 1 of his last 2. I’ll write the other one tomorrow (or at least start it).

NaNoWriMo Day 17

The Words: 124 written today.

I didn’t expect to beat yesterday for how few words I’d written so soon, but I shouldn’t have been surprised.

I was gone from 11 this morning until after midnight. I was able to write a little in a notebook while I was out, and it came to 124 words. I have a difficult time letting a day of NaNoWriMo go by without writing something, so it counts.

The Story: The climax of the story took an unexpected turn when someone new showed up. And considering the way that the rest of them got to this underground lair, they certainly weren’t expecting to be joined by anyone.

NaNoWriMo Day 16

The Words: 643 written today.

I was at work for 8 hours today, which was at least 3 hours longer than I expected to be there. By the time I got home around 9, I hadn’t eaten anything all day, I had about another hour of work ahead of me that needed to be done tonight, and I have to get up early for other work tomorrow.

I am happy to have written at all!

The Story: I managed to figure out how to continue the fight scene that began to make a little more sense in my mind. I got right to the point where Nathan had to decide if he could kill Vin, even as Vin was about to kill him.

NaNoWriMo Day 15

The Words: 1869 written today.

The climax to this story has been in my head for years, but always in this nebulous form where the heroes confront the bad man, defeat him, and then march triumphantly home. Now that it’s more than that–that the “bad guy” is more than a simple villain, I need it to be more than just, “they fight and the good guys prevail.”

But I’m struggling with how much of the fighting I need to show. I really dreaded picking back up where I left off yesterday. So I’m stalling. I wrote all 1869 words on my Neo, writing letters from Vin.

And now I can’t find the cable that connects the Neo to the computer. It’s a good thing the Neo has a word count feature built in.

The Story: I wrote 2 letters from Vin to the pastor today, and no other story. The second letter was pretty long. It turned into Vin explaining a bit more of his overall plan, after his entire purpose of coming to this place was a failure. But he’s confident that he will get another chance at it (and with good reason to be), so he still expects his overall plans to happen someday.

His overall plans are pretty much to be the next Jesus, by the way, but with his own agenda at the forefront.
