Most of the messages I get through this form are, understandably, requests to read and review self-published or indie author books. As a self-published author myself, I realize the need for reviews and certainly empathize with the difficulty of self-marketing. However, before you ask me to read your (or your client’s) book, please first make sure that the book is a genre (or sub-genre) I read. (For example, I read some fantasy, but not really paranormal. I read sci-fi, but not so much space operas.) And then consider looking through some of my reviews of other self-published books (some solicited, some not) and understand that I tend to be a picky reader and also more harsh in my ratings than average readers. I can make some allowances for self-published authors who don’t have the benefit of professional editors (unless they pay someone else to do it), but I still think there’s plenty of burden of responsibility on the author to polish their work—try to tighten up prose, remove plot holes, even make sure dialog sounds natural—for themselves.
All of that being said, if you still wish to send me a request to read and review your book, you can use the form below to contact me about it.
